Lean In:

I’ve been hearing this term ‘Lean In’ a lot recently. I’ve heard it used in a religious context ‘Lean in to God’, and also in our business training, ‘Lean in to Fear’.

So I looked it up, and found the current meaning as used by Sheryl Sandberg in her book ‘Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead’, to “lean in” means to be assertive, to move toward a leading, rather than a following, role.

I know what it means to me, it feels so full, so embracing, so surrendered, somehow it has my heart and my body soften like being bathed in nectar or honey.

These two meanings are not opposed, they have a meeting point for me, rather than just leading or following, to ‘Lean In’ is to soften, to surrender, to God, to Grace, to lead from love, from life, to be led by the absolute, not one above the other.

As I stop, I feel into these words even more, listen to them with my heart, I am so moved, touched deeply by these two simple words ‘Lean In’ …… and then these words flowed forth …..

Lean In
Lean in to me,
Yes, to God, to grace,
soften your breath, your body,
lean in more,
listen to the whispers of your heart,
your soul, your deepest self,
lean in and feel the breath of me
I am breathing you,
breathing this life.

Lean In
Lean in to me,
Yes, to god, to grace,
Lean in to your fears,
Your tremblings, your uncertainty
Soften your guard
allow the opening of your heart,
your soul, your deepest self,
lean in and trust the strength of me
I am guiding you,
guiding this life.

Lean In
Lean in to me,
Yes, to god, to grace,
Lean in to your desires,
your imaginings
your longings
feel the desire of your heart,
your soul, your deepest self,
lean in and feel the warmth of me
I am living you,
Living this life.

Lean In
Lean in to me,
Yes, to god, to grace,
Lean in to the unknown
The mystery,
rest in the Silence of your heart,
your soul, your deepest self,
Surrender everything
Lean all the way in,
and discover
you and I are one.

I’d love you to take a moment, to really experience what this term ‘Lean In’ means to you? and to hear how these words that flowed forth may have touched you ?

Mark Nepo Quote: “To listen is to lean in, softly, with a willingness to be changed by what we hear.”
